STAGE 1 - Improving
Workplace Education Evaluation
SUMMARY
Critically examining your evaluation efforts, and beginning
to think of ways to tie workplace education efforts to measurable
organizational goals, will ensure:
- That these expenditures of time, money
and effort are not wasted;
- That these expenditures will be seen
as strategic investments rather than costs that can be easily
cut when times are tight;
- That senior management views the development
of human capital via workplace education as a key strategic
pillar in realizing the organization's overall strategic
vision and performance goals.
Do not be overly concerned or discouraged if most of your
present evaluation efforts are at Level 1 or 2
. this
is the norm. About 80 per cent of organizations only do Level
1 evaluation. You are not alone in the quest to improve workplace
education evaluation.
You are now ready to move on to Stage
2, where we introduce the Balanced Scorecard concept.
In Stage 3 we will
show how one can align workplace education evaluation with
the organization's strategic goals as outlined in a Balanced
Scorecard for Skills.
Before moving on to Stage
2, you may wish to fill in the current
practice survey to evaluate your practice in order
to determine where you are situated with respect to best practices
in evaluation.
